Coach Tony Yum

35 years of martial arts experience. Co-founder of Diesel Gym Woolwich. Now coaching in Tokyo.

Background

Tony has practised martial arts for 35 years, ranging from kickboxing and Judo to wrestling. His main competitive background is in Muay Thai and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu / 10th Planet Jiu-Jitsu, including fighting professionally in Thailand when he was younger.

Diesel Gym Woolwich

Tony is the cofounder of Diesel Gym Woolwich, a branch of London's Diesel Gym, where he has taught Muay Thai and Jiu-Jitsu to hundreds of students over many years.

Why Tokyo

Tony has two daughters at British School in Tokyo. Wanting to build a martial arts community for expat and bilingual families is exactly what led to Diesel Gym Tokyo.

Day job

Outside the gym, Tony has spent most of his career at investment banks including Goldman Sachs and JP Morgan. He is currently Head of AI at Beacon Platform, recently acquired by Clearwater Analytics.
